Custom Fabric Mats

Custom fabric is received on a roll, pictured next to the vintage magazine.

The fabric is measured to accommodate for the mat and custom frame size.

After the base mat is cut, an acid free adhesive tissue is applied and is set in the heat press.

The prepared base mat is checked again for size and layout.

The prepared mat is placed face down on the back side of the fabric.

The mat and fabric are placed once again in the heat press. The fabric will adhere to the prepared base mat.

A "cradle" is created to hold the vintage magazine in place for framing. The process and materials used are of conservation and archival quality.

The magazine sits within the finished "cradle".

The moulding is cut to the custom size.

And then sanded to ensure a precise fit.

The moulding is joined at each corner.

After all four corners are squarely joined, the frame is ready for the finished piece.

The fabric and base mat are now adhered together. A cross cut is made to allow for wrapping the fabric around the mat bevel.

The fabric is wrapped around the back of the mat and set in place with acid free adhesive.

Once the outside of the mat is wrapped, an acid free glue is used to adhere the fabric around the inner bevel.

The fabric is wrapped, with precision, around the bevel.

Acid free linen tape is used to secured the fabric on the back of the mat.

The custom fabric mat is finished and ready for a final fitting check.

The magazine cradle and backing is trimmed to the custom size.

All components are assembled into the finished piece.

The custom matted and framed piece is ready for presentation to the client.
